Virginia Black Chamber of Commerce launches the Virginia Black Caucus Local Elected Officials Initiative

The Virginia Black Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce the launch of the Virginia Black Caucus Local Elected Officials (VABC-LEO) initiative. This non-partisan program is a dynamic new platform dedicated to ensuring African-American representation in politics, promoting education for beneficial changes within the black community, and empowering black businesses to thrive.

VABC-LEO actively advocates for municipal government positions and programs that create an environment of communication, idea exchange, and collaboration. We are committed to improving local government administration within Virginia’s communities effectively and responsibly.

Join us as we officially introduce the VABC-LEO at our inaugural event on Sunday, October 8, 2023, at 7:30 p.m. at Brothers Restaurant in Norfolk. The evening, themed “Progress & Politics,” promises insightful discussions led by some of Virginia’s leading black politicians shaping the future of entrepreneurship and small business in their cities.

Our program leadership includes: VABC-LEO Vice-President Mayor Derrick R. Wood of Dumfries, 2nd Vice President City Councilwoman Mamie B. Johnson of Norfolk, 2nd Vice President City Councilman John Chapman of Alexandria, Treasurer Commissioner of Revenue Tiffany Boyle of Newport News, and Chaplin City Councilman Christopher B. Jones of Harrisonburg.

The panel discussion will feature Delegate Don Scott of Virginia’s 88th District in Portsmouth and Delegate Angelia Williams Graves Democratic member for the 90th district in the Virginia House of Delegates since 2021. They will share experiences and insights into how politics impacts the growth and economic advancement of businesses in Virginia, particularly within the black community.

We extend our gratitude to our Title Sponsor, POLIHIRE, led by Founder & CEO Kenyatta Uzzell.

This event is an excellent opportunity for business owners, entrepreneurs, and those interested in Virginia’s economic landscape to understand the intersection between politics and business.
