Two-Hour Cross-Platform Coverage to Elevate Black Perspectives of 2022 Midterm Elections Live from Washington, D.C., New York and Philadelphia

Allen Media Group’s African American-focused news, lifestyle, sports and entertainment platform theGrio (www.thegrio.com) is proud to announce BLACK AMERICA MUST VOTE — two hours of live, cross-platform election night coverage from, and for, Black voters. The growing African-American news franchise will provide an unprecedented alternative to mainstream election news, with reporting and commentary from Washington, D.C., New York and Philadelphia starting at 7:00 p.m. ET on November 8, 2022. Election coverage will be live-streamed on theGrio.com website and theGrio Politics YouTube channel.

BLACK AMERICA MUST VOTE live coverage will be hosted by theGrio team of April D. Ryan in Washington, D.C., Natasha S. Alford in New York and Dr. Lamont Hill in Philadelphia. April Ryan,
theGrio’s White House correspondent, will interview guest politicians in theGrio’s Washington, D.C. studio, while Senior Correspondent Natasha Alford will provide election updates and results in real
time from the New York studio, and Dr. Lamont Hill will speak with voters, organizers and students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). TheGrio Op-Ed writer Michael Harriot will provide additional coverage.

 

BLACK AMERICA MUST VOTE live coverage will feature politicians, advocates and organizers, including Fordham University Political Science Associate Professor Dr. Christina Greer, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas), Rep. Michele Rayner (D-Fla.), award-winning author/journalist and Contributing Editor for theGrio Sophia A. Nelson, Senior Fellow of the Brookings Institution Andre Perry, former Planned Parenthood executive Alencia Johnson, and Co-Founder and President of Higher Heights Glynda C. Carr.

The two-hour live-streaming event will also drop in on election watch parties at HBCUs, including Texas Southern University and Alabama A&M University, with a focus on first-time voters and their perspectives. There will also be special packageson critical U.S. Senate races inGeorgia between Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock and Republican Herschel Walker; and in Florida, where Democrat Val Demmings is taking on Republican Sen. Marco Rubio.
