While Mustafa Aljazairi remains imprisoned, a family awaits justice

by PW Perspective Editorial Board

Over the past several months the PW Perspective has learned about alleged abuses to 34-year-old Mustafa Aljazairi and several other inmates at Prince William County Jail in Manassas. Although there was a potential breakthrough when Prince William County Police Chief Peter Newsham noted an internal investigation revealed that Officer Robert Drumm violated Department policy and “appropriate corrective action has been taken,” Mustafa still remains imprisoned. Now, the family has taken extreme action in hopes of seeing Mustafa freed before his trial in December.

For the past several days, the family has stayed outside in the parking lot of the jail, braving the changing temperatures which accompany this time of year. His brother Ammar, who served for several years in Iraq and worked on helping military vehicles, has converted one into a visual image of his brother and the truth of the falsified police report. His sister has painted a drawing of Mustafa’s body lying face down on the ground, a horrific display of cruelty signifying his ordeal since April 2023.

Recently, several members of the community, from both near and far, have lent their voices and support to the family. One person is even driving over ten hours to provide a recreational vehicle so the children can have a comfortable place to rest and recover. Another one is bringing a projector so the family can showcase what Mustafa and other inmates, such as Juan Campos, who died in March while imprisoned, are going through.

They are streaming via YouTube and TikTok what they are experiencing. For more, please visit their page, and we will have more information as it develops.
