Virginia State Conference NAACP to hold voter rally

On Thursday, March 3, at 10:30 am, the Virginia State Conference NAACP will host a “Let the Voters Decide Rally” in support of voting rights.

Yesterday, a House subcommittee voted down proposed constitutional amendments that would restore voting rights for felons who have completed their terms. Under Virginia law, people convicted of felonies lose the right to vote unless a governor restores it on an individual basis. The proposed amendment, proposed by Senator Mamie Locke (D-Hampton), was voted down 6-4 along party lines. This impacts primarily Black and brown reformed citizens, who are often the target of voter suppression efforts.
