Video of July 14th Altercation Shows a Clear Error in Judgement

On Tuesday July 14th, there was an altercation that occurred at the McCoart Building in Woodbridge, in which a group of protestors were unnecessarily provoked by an agitator as he proceeded towards them. As the surveillance video shows, one of the protestors was shoved to the ground by as the agitator made his way into the building. Subsequently, three of the protestors were charged with assault and arrested. They were later released. Prior to the altercation there was a verbal exchange in which you can see the agitators using threatening language towards the protestors, starting at the 1:40 mark.

There must be a call for accountability by those who are sworn to protect the community, and a clear error in judgement has been displayed. Based upon the visual evidence, the protestors did not cause the reported incident but instead were targeted as they exercised their free speech. The resulting course of action taken by the Prince William County Police Department in this instance was not warranted, and as a result, three young individuals have a record.

We are calling for an expunging of their records and an official apology by the PWCPD for their actions.

There will be a Board of County Supervisors meeting starting at 2pm this afternoon where the citizens can let their voices be heard and speak out against injustice.
