Travis Nembhard announces bid for Virginia’s 10th Congressional District

Attorney, Law Professor, and former Judge and Civil Rights Advocate, Travis Nembhard will seek the Democratic nomination for Virginia’s 10th Congressional District

Earlier today, Travis Nembhard, who recently ran for delegate of the 22nd District, announced his plans to run for the Democratic nomination for Virginia’s 10th Congressional District. He released the following statement via press release:

“I have spent my career standing up for people who are too often forgotten. My lifetime of public service is focused on combating injustices and fighting for those who need someone to fight for them the most. While working in the Obama White House, I witnessed the power of government to be a force for good. As an assistant attorney general in the Civil Rights Bureau, I went after slumlords, corrupt employers that violated wage laws, and companies that discriminated against individuals.  And, as a financial regulator, I investigated instances of complex white-collar crime. I have a consistent record of working to protect the public against bad actors, and I intend to do the same in Congress, on behalf of the 10th Congressional District.” said Nembhard.

“We need a representative who knows what it’s like to navigate financial challenges, especially those associated with increasing education costs. Who knows what it’s like to have had to work two jobs to pay the bills just like so many working and middle-class people. Who understands that we must defend and strengthen our public school system, because that’s how working people have kids who become successful and who can afford to raise a family in communities like ours.”

“I bring the unique experience of having worked in positions that directly touch all three branches of government; something I intend to leverage when tackling our nation’s most complex challenges like attacks on reproductive freedom, threats to our democracy, skyrocketing costs, gun violence, and climate change. And we need someone who will usher in a new generation of leadership, because if we’re serious about combating the hate and disinformation of MAGA extremists, it’s going to take a multigenerational grassroots coalition to do it.”

Nembhard is the latest candidate to announce their campaign for the nomination, joining nine other Democratic candidates and two Republican candidates for the seat of the retiring Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton.
