Town of Dumfries Council releases strategic plan

The Dumfries Town Council has taken a significant stride towards the future with the official adoption of a visionary Strategic Plan. This historic decision, reached during the Town Council meeting held on October 17, 2023, signifies a transformational era for our beloved town.

This collaborative effort has united Town Council members, dedicated staff, and engaged community members in a shared vision. Over several months, these passionate individuals immersed themselves in extensive work sessions and off-site meetings, meticulously crafting a blueprint that promises to redefine Dumfries for years to come.

At the heart of this transformative plan are five clear goal statements, setting a roadmap for Dumfries:

Goals

  1. Enhancing Public Safety: Ensuring the safety and well-being of our residents is our top priority.
  2. Well-Managed Government: Striving for an efficient and accountable local government.
  3. Economic Development & Infrastructure: Fostering economic growth and sustainable infrastructure.
  4. Civic Engagement: Encouraging active participation and involvement in town matters.
  5. Affordability & Livability: Ensuring Dumfries remains an affordable and desirable place to live. Complementing this visionary outlook is an equally ambitious mission statement: “Our mission is to transform Dumfries into an inviting, diverse, and inclusive community for those who reside and visit.” This mission underscores our dedication to creating an environment that warmly embraces diversity, inviting everyone to call Dumfries home.

Mayor Derrick R. Wood, Town Council, and Town Manager Tangela Innis are enthusiastic about this transformational initiative. Mayor Wood emphasized the significance of this Strategic Plan, stating, “This plan marks a pivotal moment in our town’s history.” Town Manager Innis added, “Our dedication to this plan stems from our belief in Dumfries’ potential.”
