Town of Dumfries begins 2024 Comprehensive Plan update process

by John Reid

Yesterday the Town of Dumfries began the review process for its Comprehensive Plan. It includes the goals of the town for the next 20 years, and action plans to achieve those goals. Some of the goals include land use, economic growth, transportation, and community services.

“Today marks a pivotal moment in our journey. Our comprehensive plan update isn’t just a strategy on paper—it’s a dynamic blueprint for innovation, resilience, and sustainable growth. As we navigate the ever-evolving landscape, this plan is our compass, guiding us towards success and ensuring that every step forward is a step towards a brighter future for our town and the communities we serve,” said Town Manager Tangela Innis.

The Town of Dumfries will begin the public engagement process in January, starting with  stakeholder focus group discussions, followed by a series of public pop-up sessions around town,  several public meetings, and an online survey.

Tune in to the January 9 Town Council Meeting to learn more. Stay up to date with the Comprehensive Plan update and upcoming engagement opportunities through the Plan update webpage on the Town’s Website at: www.dumfriesva.gov. The previous Comprehensive Plan can be viewed through the Town’s website on the Department of Planning and Economic Development page.
