Town of Dumfries 275th Anniversary Gala a rousing success

by John Reid

On Friday night at the National Museum of the Marine Corps, the celebration of Virginia’s oldest chartered town began. A large gathering of citizens, political figures, and even a few celebrities made their way to Triangle as the 275th anniversary gala took place.

Hosted by Fox 5’s Guy Lambert, the occasion was an opportunity to look at a town which has grown from its past to become, as Mayor Derrick Wood often states, “a place to come to, not a place to drive through.” Lambert read a proclamation from Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin, commemorating May 11 as the official date of celebration for Dumfries. Later on in the evening, several business owners, as well as Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger, Board of County Chair-At-Large Deshundra Jefferson, and Potomac District Supervisor Andrea Bailey gave remarks to honor the work done by Mayor Wood and the Dumfries Town Council.

Over the weekend, the celebrations will continue at both Garrison and Merchant Parks in Dumfries. Both events, which are free to the public will begin at 12, with vendors, activities for children, and more.
