Tell Your Rep. ‘Vote No’ on Bill Silencing Dissent

Right now, the House of Representatives plans to vote on a bill that would give the incoming Trump administration power to attack organizations that disagree with him. H.R. 9495 — the Stop Terror-Financing and Tax Penalties on American Hostages Act would effectively allow the Secretary of Treasury to designate any organization as “terrorist supporting” without any justification or reasoning with the organizations accused.

Despite its title, H.R. 9495 will have a detrimental impact on our democracy and the exercise of our First Amendment right to challenge those in power. After failing to pass last week due to a technicality, H.R. 9495 only needs a simple majority to pass the House.

Given the history of targeting Black-led and progressive organizations, we cannot sit by and remain silent. So we must act urgently.

Call your representative TODAY at 202-225-3121, and let them know this bill is dangerous and should not become law.
