Supervisor Margaret Angela Franklin of Woodbridge Issues Directive on Gun Violence Prevention

WOODBRIDGE, Va. – Supervisor Margaret Angela Franklin at Tuesday’s meeting of the Prince William County Board of County Supervisors continues her efforts to combat gun violence in Prince William County. She issued a directive, without objection, for staff to determine the availability of federal funding for gun violence prevention programs and services. Specifically, Supervisor Franklin directed the study and review of the Bipartisan Safer Community Act for sources of “funding for programs, services, or equipment that Prince William County can use to make our schools and communities safer.”

This latest effort by Supervisor Franklin follows a Gun Violence Prevention Town Hall on June 22nd and a Public Safety Town Hall on August 16th that she hosted earlier this summer. According to Franklin, “Gun violence prevention is a top priority of mine. We must urgently address this problem with all available resources.”

Supervisor Franklin added, “residents should contact my office with any questions or concerns they may have regarding community safety.”

There have been several incidents in Prince William County this year involving gun violence, and now there are more voices speaking out for solutions within the communities.
