Small Business of the Day: Uncle Dell’s Mambo Sauce
Each day in February the PW Perspective will feature a Black-owned small business. If you would like for your business to be featured, please send an email to pwperspective@gmail.com.
On Sunday the creator of “Uncle Dell’s Mambo Sauce” visited Dyvine BBQ in Motion, located in Dumfries. Owned by Mayor Derrick Wood, the Southern style delicatessen hosted the Burton brothers, Andrew and Nyles. They formed Andy Factory and are the creators of ‘Uncle Dell’s Mambo Sauce.’ The brothers shared their story of how they came up with the business and sold the famous sauce which is a staple of the Washington DC metropolitan area. They’ve been featured on WUSA-9 and a host of other media outlets.
Andrew said that they started the business over a year ago as a homework project. He first started it when he was five and then sold mambo sauce at age 12. “A year and a half ago our father told us had to live as if we didn’t have any money,” said Andrew. “We weren’t about to do that, so we started the business and went from there. So we took it and sold 10,000 bottles in our first year. We sold it in DC, Clinton, Maryland, and in Frederick.”
They are now taking their sauce to the next level. It is now in stores throughout the DMV area. “Our vision is to take it as far as we can. We believe that it will be in stores throughout the country.”
