Prince William Young Democrats and PW Perspective to Host VA01 Virtual Candidate Forum

The Prince William Young Democrats and the PW Perspective will co-host a candidate forum for the Democratic candidates running for Congress in Virginia’s First Congressional District. The forum will specifically address issues faced by students and young people.

The Democratic candidates are Vangie Williams and Qasim Rashid. Williams is an author and the 2018 Democratic nominee for VA01, and Rashid is a human rights lawyer and the 2019 Democratic nominee for Virginia’s 28th State Senate District.

Candidates will have to answer questions relating to criminal justice reform, police brutality, voting rights, civil rights, higher education, public education, living wages, economic issues, healthcare, women’s rights, COVID-19, and gun control. Questions can be submitted HERE. All questions must be related to issues faced by young people and/or students.

The forum will take place on June 6, 2020 at 2 p.m. EST.

Langston Carter

Langston Ridge Carter is a freelance media and communications consultant. He is currently studying Public Relations and Strategic Communication at American University in Washington, D.C., where he also competes as a member of the varsity swim team. Carter is an experienced campaign staffer, having worked on several campaigns in Prince William County in different roles. Coupled with his political work, as a high school student he founded the Youth Initiation for National Action in order to give teenagers a stronger voice and opportunities to work with legislators. In addition to his consulting and political work, Carter works as an assistant coach for the Ridgewood Barracudas, a summer swim team in Woodbridge. Prior to coaching, he was a member of the team for twelve years.
