Primary results in Virginia sets up interesting races

The congressional races in both CD-7 and CD-10 were some of the most contested primaries headed into today’s elections, and while the results were unsurprising, it sets up the potential for change in November.

Congressional representative Abigail Spanberger plans for a gubernatorial run in 2025, the Republican and Democratic parties held their primaries in CD-7. Republican candidate Derrick Anderson won and will face Eugene Vindman, who withstood a crowded Democratic field. Vindman sent out this tweet on X after the Associated Press confirmed his victory:

Regarding CD-10, in which Congressional Representative Jennifer Wexton will step down for health concerns, gave way to another crowded race. On the Republican side, it will be Mike Clancy taking on Democratic candidate Senator Suhas Subramanyam. Prior to the election, Wexton endorsed Subramanyam, who beat favorite Dan Helmer in a close race.

In addition, Senator Tim Kaine will run for re-election against Republican Hung Cao, who won handily in his race this evening.

The other additional local race was in Manassas City Council, where Democrats Ashley Hutson, Tom Osina, and Mark Wolfe won the top three spots.
