Prestigious Golf Tournament Coming to Prince William County in September

Prince William County is set to host the Solheim Cup at the acclaimed Robert Trent Jones Golf Club from Sept. 10 to Sept. 15, 2024. This international event will feature the top 12 women golfers from the United States competing against the top 12 from Europe, drawing in thousands of visitors and generating significant economic benefits for the county.

This event is anticipated to attract more than 150,000 spectators, many of whom will be staying in local hotels, dining in local restaurants and shopping in the area. This influx of visitors is expected to surpass the $40 million economic impact seen during the last U.S. event in Toledo, Ohio.

“This is more than just a golf tournament; it’s a chance to showcase Prince William County to an international audience,” said Kevin Costello, tourism director for the Department of Economic Development and Tourism. “With the anticipated record attendance, local businesses are set to experience a significant boost in revenue, reinforcing our county’s reputation as a prime location for major events.”

For those attending, all public parking for the event will be at Jiffy Lube Live, with all ride shares directed there as well, and attendees will be bussed to the course.

The event will also include military flyovers scheduled for approximately 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 12, and 7:15 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 13.

Residents and businesses near the golf course should prepare for increased traffic starting on Tuesday, Sept. 10. Traffic is expected to be particularly heavy on the peak days of Sept. 13, 14, and 15, bringing the most traffic centered around the entrance to the Lake Manassas community and Jiffy Lube Live.

“Friday, Saturday and Sunday will be the busiest days,” Costello said. “They are expecting to sell out for all three days, with 40,000 people attending each day. I would anticipate that traffic will be at its peak between 5-8 a.m., and afternoon traffic could be heaviest between 4-7 p.m.”

Prince William County officials have been planning for the tournament for about two years and Costello said everyone is prepared for the anticipated crowds.

“We’ve been working with law enforcement and emergency services to ensure a seamless experience for both visitors and locals,” Costello said.

Costello said he hopes for a great deal of enthusiasm from fans at the course.

“This is a unique moment for our community to come together, support our local economy and cheer on Team USA as they compete for victory,” Costello added.
