Tonya James elected to Prince William County Democratic Committee Chair

Rozia Henson, Jr. and Patricia Kuntz will be Co-Vice Chair after tie vote

On Thursday the Prince William County Democratic Committee held an election to determine who would lead the party heading into the general elections come November. Tonya James won the vote to become the new Chair, while both Rozia Henson, Jr. and Patricia Kuntz tied for the vote of Vice Chair and will serve together.

James sent the following statement to the PW Perspective after the victory.

“I am honored to have been chosen as the next Chair of the Prince William Democratic Party. I want to thank everyone who participated in the process. I also want to publicly thank my dear friend LaTonsha Pridgen for her hard work and dedication to our committee and wish her well in her next chapter. I want to be clear, we are unified as a committee heading into the November General Elections. Our top priorities are to do our part in delivering Prince William to our three statewide candidates on the top of the ticket and ensuring we protect our Democratic gains in the General Assembly so they can continue to do the work for all residents here in Prince William County and our Commonwealth.”

Chairwoman Katelyn O. Page released the following statement, “Prince William County is going to benefit from a diverse leadership body that will champion all our Democratic candidates, elected officials, organizations, and relationships which will advance everyone’s unique issues. We are extremely proud to see Women’s Caucus Members, Chair Tonya James and Co-Sr. Vice Chair Rozia Henson, Jr. bringing much needed feminist perspectives into these critical leadership positions. Working alongside Rozia will be Co-Sr. Vice Chair Patricia Kuntz, an active and longtime member of the Democratic party and we are ready to ensure that we put the full weight of the Caucus behind this winning leadership team to protect the Democratic majority this fall!”
