Northern Virginia Transportation Association funds important transportation projects in the Potomac District
On September 3, 2024, The Board of County Supervisors accepted funding from the Northern
Virginia Transportation Association (NVTA) for two key transportation projects in the Potomac
District. These projects aim to enhance regional connectivity, improve safe-routes-to-school,
and support sustainable transportation options.
The Board approved the funding for the following two projects:
- Graham Park Road Sidewalk
Total Project Cost: $4,814,688
This project will construct a new sidewalk along Graham Park Road, providing a safe and
continuous pedestrian route to Graham Park Middle School. The improvements will
enhance connectivity and accessibility for residents, encouraging walking and reducing
traffic congestion. - Lion’s Field Road Sidewalk
Total Project Cost: $5,214,578
The Lion’s Field Road Sidewalk project involves the installation of a new sidewalk along
Lion’s Field Road. This award aims to create a safer environment for pedestrians,
particularly students and families in route to Triangle Elementary School. What’s more, this
project supports a more walkable community as outlined by the Triangle Small Area Plan.
At a meeting in the near future, the Prince William Board of County Supervisors will move
to accept additional funding on the following three projects:
- Route 234 Operational Improvements
Requested Funding: $10,000,000 This project is designed to enhance traffic flow and
operational efficiency along Route 234 by using the latest traffic flow technology. With an
emphasis on reducing congestion and improving travel times, the Route 234 Operational
Improvements project will implement targeted upgrades and modifications to key
intersections and roadway segments.
- Route 234 Bicycle and Pedestrian Facility over I-95
Requested Funding: $12,000,000
Aiming to foster a safer and more accessible environment for non-motorized travelers, this
project will construct a new bicycle and pedestrian facility over I-95. This facility will
provide a vital connection for cyclists and pedestrians, promoting active transportation
and connectivity across the region. Additionally, this project will be the first non-motorized
reconnection of Prince William County to the Town of Dumfries.
- Triangle Mobility Hub
Requested Funding: $10,000,000
The Triangle Mobility Hub will serve as a core transportation node, integrating multiple
modes of transit to enhance regional connectivity. This project includes the development
of a comprehensive transit center that will Serve community and workforce needs by
improving overall transit efficiency and convenience.
Supervisor Bailey secured a combined project total of $42,029,266.
