Mayor Wood creates “Spotlight Dumfries” to bring people to the community

During his three years as Mayor of Dumfries, Derrick Wood has overseen a lot of change within the town. From the dedication of the Willie Toney basketball court, to the arrival of Rosie’s Gaming Emporium, Wood’s leadership has led to not only a recognition of the town’s past, but provided an economic growth pattern for its future. Now, he has created a new digital platform called “Spotlight Dumfries,” which according to its website, “spotlighting the rich culture and history telling the stories of the people and businesses who make up the community.” Below is a recent video in which Bill Davis, CEO of Young Marines and Kiran Uppal, Customer Service Manager at the Dumfries DMV, were featured.

Spotlight Dumfries is a promotional podcast for the community of Dumfries and is presented by donations from sponsors. All proceeds go towards offsetting production costs. Wood, who is the host, is in no way compensated for his appearance’s use of likeness or otherwise for the production of the show. Produced by HP Media Productions, they film on location Mondays and Tuesdays of each week.

The series aims to highlight the diversity of the community and gives small businesses the opportunity to be featured in Virginia’s oldest town. Visit their Facebook, Instagram or YouTube pages for more information. New episodes are on Thursdays, and people who would like to sponsor the program can visit their website contact page.
