Manassas Clinical Research Center Offers FREE Services to the community
According to the CDC, heart disease is the number 1 cause of death for Americans. Closely behind that is stroke, and diabetes. In addition, recent studies show that 55.9% of Black women age 20 and over are obese. The Hispanic or Latino population, according to the same CDC reference, shows that over 40% of men and women over the age of 20 are also battling obesity.
With these staggering numbers, Dr. Nabil S. Andrawis MD, PhD, FACP of the Manassas Clinical Research Center is doing his part to help bring awareness and solutions to the silent killers that are drastically affecting these communities.
PW Perspective sat down with Dr. Andrawis to discuss his clinic and how we can get more information to the community.
Dr. Andrawis shared that for over a decade, the Clinical Research Center has offered FREE health screenings for diabetes, heart disease, and other chronic illnesses. In addition, he has offered medication either free or reduced for people who have no insurance. His motto is that no one should not be able to get medicine because of a lack of money.
He believes in operating from a preventive measure, which is the measures or steps taken for prevention of disease as opposed to disease treatment.
Examples include:
- regular exams and screening tests to detect disease in its earliest stages (e.g. mammograms to detect breast cancer)
- daily, low-dose aspirins and/or diet and exercise programs to prevent further heart attacks or strokes.
One of the biggest concerns for Dr. Andrawis is the amount of people in the community that don’t take advantage of these free resources that can prevent death. “Many people are afraid. They are afraid to get tested or screened because they are afraid to hear that something is wrong.” He shared. Unfortunately, avoiding information won’t prevent the consequences of these illnesses. The quality of life suffers and ultimately can cause death.
Manassas Clinical Research Center offers clinical trials for the community as well.
Clinical trials are a great way for patients to get access to new treatments and earn a bit of extra money.
