Major League Baseball Commits to Supporting Representation of Black Americans
Despite the dwindling numbers of Black players on Major League Baseball rosters, the sport continues to be on the forefront of supporting their causes. Today MLB, along with their Players Association, agreed to donate up to $10 million dollars to fund innovative programs designed by the Player Alliance. The purpose will be to improve representation of Black Americans in all levels of baseball. The agreement will focus on the following agenda items:
Improve representation of Black Americans in all levels of baseball.
Offer player-led mentorship, fund leagues, tournaments, clinics and donate equipment.
Support Black cultural education, camps and other programs.
Increase Black business partnerships and employment through education, training and recruitment.
Support baseball programs in public schools, and provide grants, scholarships and community services.
Earlier this year former and current Black players came together in a stirring video to speak about the issues in their community, and MLB celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Negro Leagues.
