by John Reid
On Wednesday, longtime national talk show host and activist Joe Madison, known to millions as ‘The Black Eagle,’ tragically passed away on Wednesday at the age of 74 after a long battle with prostate cancer. His family released the following statement: “”It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father, Joe Madison. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family.”
It continues. “”Joe dedicated his life to fighting for all those who are undervalued, underestimated and marginalized. On air, he often posed the question, ‘What are you going to do about it?'”
President Joe Biden sent a message on X, formerly known as Twitter, honoring the man who used his voice for justice and to speak out against racial discrimination.
Prior to having his national show on SiriusXM’s Urban View channel, Madison was the youngest Detroit NAACP chapter leader at the age of 24. From there, he worked in markets such as St. Louis, Detroit, Philadelphia, and then Washington, DC. Mr. Madison is survived by his wife Sherry, and four children Michelle, Shawna, Jason, and Monesha.
