Vice Mayor Monae Nickerson spoke with the PW Perspective on the importance of hosting this event. “Like the Pink and Purple event, this upcoming event is deeply rooted in raising awareness, fostering community support, and providing valuable resources as well as networking opportunities,” she said.

“But it’s also about empowerment – a common goal shared between these events. We aim to empower our community members with knowledge, support, and the tools necessary to take charge of their health and well-being.”

“In line with this commitment,” she added, “we recently issued a proclamation for International Men’s Day, calling on the community and healthcare providers to actively engage in and support men’s health initiatives. This proclamation is a significant step in advocating for a more inclusive approach to health and wellness, recognizing the unique challenges and needs within our community.”

She talks about how this event was designed to bring the community together. “Empowerment in health transcends gender and illness. It’s about equipping every individual with the knowledge and resources to make informed decisions about their health.”

“This event reinforces our commitment to fostering a health-conscious community, where every voice is heard, and every health issue is acknowledged with the same vigor and support. We are bringing together health professionals, survivors, and leaders in various fields to discuss critical health topics, focusing on both physical and mental well-being.”

“Sunday’s gathering is designed to create an environment of open dialogue, education, and mutual support – crucial elements in building a healthier and informed community.”
