How Nia Mobley Empowers Women Through Her Creativity
Nia Mobley is the owner of a Kid’s accessory subscription box, Psalm and Sanaa, for boys and girls ages six months to 12 years old.
Psalm and Sanaa came into existence in 2014 when after giving birth to her second daughter, Nia had limited funds to buy both of the girls cute and fun accessories. She started making them both headbands and hair accessories at home. That soon developed into selling those products on the online marketplace, Esty. When she returned to full-time work in 2015, she had little to no time to dedicate to hand making accessories but didn’t want to give up such a fun hobby. After much consideration, in 2018, she launched the subscription box and instead of making the items; she purchased them from other makers.
The primary goal of Psalm and Sanaa is to help parents, grandparents, and family members save time by purchasing curated gifts that are essential to a child’s daily wardrobe and help them express their personality through fashion.
The second mission is to support and empower women in business. They want to recognize women-makers and their amazing products.
Something that Nia feels proud of is that Psalm and Sanaa are in honor of her 2 beautiful daughters and she involves them in every area of this company. Her plan is to solidify their place in the subscription box industry and pass this on to them when they become of age.
Another aspect that Nia is proud of is the ability to help support other women-owned business. Nia shares, “I research to find creative women-owned businesses that line with our brand, to purchase their items and promote their business to our subscribers. It’s a win-win situation!”
Each box also includes what Nia calls their ‘Successory’, which is the term used to describe the educational activity that they include in each box. Nia states, “I have always encouraged my girls to have fun while learning. We want our subscribers to experience the same. Psalm and Sanaa pick out the coolest activities for each box and we blog about them at www.psalmandsanaa.com!”
Nia’s message to other female entrepreneurs is this. “My famous words are Never Stop Starting. It’s very difficult being an entrepreneur, but you are only a failure once you stop.”
