How do we reach our young adults in Prince William County?

by Trey Thompson

On July 15th, I had the pleasure of interviewing Dr. Andrea Wilson. We discussed topics and things that can potentially help keep young adults out of trouble in the Prince William County Area. Prince William is already a broad and huge county; it is very economically based. With the county constantly providing more expensive housing and restaurants without thinking about the youth that makes up much of the community. We talked about how crucial attainable housing is in the county and how fundamental education is.

While crime has been on the rise in Prince William, Dr. Wilson believes that creating more spaces for young adults and teens can help lower that risk and reduce the crime rates in the county. I couldn’t agree more! If there were more things to do, such as a roller-skating rink, more museums, and other places, it could help reduce crime because rather than shooting and robbing people, these places can be used to bring them together. Dr. Wilson also discussed the housing issues the county faces. No doubt the cost of living is expensive all over the country, however, it has become extremely expensive with really no incentives in Prince William. Single family homes selling from $580,000 to easily $950,000 and if not more. Housing is the base of it. Without these families’ voices being heard how could we make these issues known to the county?

Dr. Wilson helps with that! Speaking with her and hearing her views and perspective on things was refreshing to say the least. Coming from a young adult myself, I hope to see our voices heard and things being done in such an amazing and beautiful county. I would highly encourage you visit her website and please check out our interview!
