Habitat for Humanity launches 30th anniversary campaign

Manassas, VA – Habitat for Humanity Prince William is excited to announce the launch of its 30th Anniversary Campaign, 100 Days of Thanksgiving, to celebrate and raise funds for an ambitious round of projects serving low-income families in the Greater Prince William region. The campaign seeks to raise $100,000 in the one hundred days leading up to Thanksgiving.

During the coming year, Habitat for Humanity Prince William has pledged to move two families into newly renovated homes (which the families will purchase through Habitat’s Home Ownership Program) and provide comprehensive renovations to at least three homes and significant repairs to at least one home per month through Habitat’s Critical Home Repairs Program. Finally, Habitat will provide long-overdue renovations to its ReStore location in Manassas, which sells donated building materials, tools, furniture, and housewares. This will be the most ambitious schedule in the local organization’s history.

Even before the official launch, an anonymous donor has made a pledge to match the first $30,000 raised during the campaign, two local companies (Imagine, a destination marketing agency, and the accounting firm of Bennett, Atkinson & Associates, PC) have signed on as initial corporate sponsors, and Mr. Handyman of Northern Virginia has committed to complete one of the three comprehensive renovations for a local veteran.

Steve Liga, Habitat for Humanity Prince William’s Interim CEO, stated, “My wife and I founded a college-based Habitat chapter when we were students at Villanova University over thirty years ago, so coming on board to assist our local Habitat chapter during its 30th Anniversary brings me back to my roots.” He explained further that Habitat’s vision to contribute to “a world where everyone has a decent place to live” is something everyone can get behind, because every family selected for Habitat’s programs must be employed and able to contribute toward the costs of home repairs or pay a mortgage based on thirty percent of their income. Many clients are those on fixed incomes who own their homes already, but cannot afford to make necessary repairs.

Those interested in supporting Habitat for Humanity Prince William during this milestone anniversary year can do so by making a contribution through their website, donating their old car through their Cars for Homes Program, donating and purchasing items through their ReStore, or volunteering on a project or in the ReStore.
