Football Friday: The Rampage takes their show on the road

All of the hard work in the offseason paid off last Saturday night as the Northern Virginia Rampage had their most dominating performance to date. They defeated the Northern Virginia Mustangs at Chuck Coles Memorial Stadium 36-6. The score was not indicative of just how much the team controlled the pace from the onset.

Emphasizing one of Head Coach Dennis’ Cornwell’s to be efficient, the Rampage were able to be just that. He spoke with the PW Perspective about the importance of the victory.

“I was proud of our overall play on both sides of the ball,” Cornwell said. “The players and the whole coaching staff did a great job.”

Looking ahead, he still believes that more execution is needed. “We left some points out there last week, so we still got to finish out in certain situations.”

Being able to do that is a must as they travel to Maryland to take on the Baltimore Hurricanes. The Canes were a thorn in the Rampage’s side last season, and Cornwell knows his team must be ready.

“Both teams are 1-0,” said Cornwell. “This will be a great test for us. I think the game will be won or lost in the trenches along with who protects the football throughout the game.”

The Rampage will be going in the game a bit banged up, but they are not deterred. “We had a few injuries last week, but we are confident in those that are stepping up and we expect great things to happen.”
