Endorsement: Deshundra Jefferson for Board of County Supervisors Chair

PW Perspective is proud to announce our endorsement of Deshundra Jefferson in the Democratic Primary for Chair of the Prince William Board of County Supervisors.

Jefferson is a former journalist, a board member of the Virginia Poverty Law Center, and a dedicated advocate for her community, and now, she wants to continue serving her community in a new capacity as Chair of the Prince William Board of County Supervisors.

As a political reporter, Jefferson saw how legislation impacted underserved communities in different and often disproportionately harsh ways. Eventually, this led her to change her career path and pursue politics. Jefferson served as press secretary for Rep. Eliot Engel (D-NY) and later as communications director for Rep. Terri Sewell (D-AL) before becoming Southern Regional Communications Director for the Democratic National Committee. During the 2020 election, Jefferson served as traveling press secretary for Governor Deval Patrick’s campaign.

As a single mother, Jefferson is no stranger to the challenges residents in Prince William County face. Jefferson’s campaign is centered around the issues everyone in the county is faced with daily: the cost of living; promoting sustainable growth; expanding public transportation; and restoring trust in the local government among others. With residents being priced out of the county due to an increased cost of living, Jefferson believes that the Board of County Supervisors should be doing more to relieve the financial burden families are facing.

Jefferson is facing off against incumbent Chair Ann Wheeler in the Democratic Primary on June 20th. Early voting has already begun at various locations in Prince William. You can find more information on early voting here.

Jefferson has been endorsed by the Progressive Change Campaign Committee and the Collective PAC.

Jefferson’s background provides the working experience and in-depth knowledge necessary to guide our county toward a brighter future and build meaningful partnerships across the region. Her willingness to speak up for what’s right even in the face of adversity is what has earned her our endorsement.
