Endorsement: Ben Litchfield for State Senate

PW Perspective is proud to announce our endorsement of Ben Litchfield in the Democratic Primary for State Senate in the new 27th District, which includes Fredericksburg and parts of Stafford and Spotsylvania.

Litchfield is a graduate of the Howard University School of Law, a former lawyer for the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau (CFPB), and former chairman of the Stafford County Democratic Committee. Now, he’s running to represent his district in the state senate.

Litchfield’s long-standing commitment to community leadership and advocacy for members of the LGBTQ+ community, low-income families, criminal justice reform, and education position him as the strongest candidate in the race. But what truly sets him apart is his background. For Litchfield, these issues aren’t just political; they have been a part of his life and a part of the lives of those around him.

As Maya Guy, Aquia District representative on the Stafford County School Board, said at an event where the Virginia National Organization for Women PAC endorsed Litchfield, “He does the right thing when nobody is watching. When you’re running for office, you talk a lot about what you need to do to win, or what strategy to win, or what you won’t do if you win. But when I talk to Ben, the conversation quickly turns to what he wants to do to help. Ben talks a lot about how he wants to help the community. That’s what I love about him.”

In the Democratic Primary, Litchfield is running against entrepreneur and veteran Joel Griffin. The district’s Republican Primary is between Del. Tara Durant and Matt Strickland. The district also has one independent candidate, Aquia District Supervisor Monica Gary.

As a lawyer with years of experience as a government regulator, drafting rules and regulations with the force of law, Litchfield has a greater grasp of policy and the legislative process than any of his opponents, something that will enable him to bring real and workable legislative solutions to the issues residents in the district face. And he hasn’t shied away from talking about those issues and how he hopes to address them. Just one week after launching his campaign, Litchfield sat down with PW Perspective to discuss pressing issues in the district. That interview can be found here.

Litchfield has already been endorsed by the Virginia National Organization for Women PAC, United Rural Democrats, Delegates Candi Mundon King and Sam Rasoul, and many community leaders and advocates. We at PW Perspective are proud to join that growing list.

The 27th Senate District is a key race in this year’s elections. As Governor Glenn Youngkin continues his crusade against public education in the commonwealth and with reproductive freedom on the line, we at PW Perspective know that endorsing the right candidate is crucial.

With his record of public service, community leadership, and unwavering commitment to underserved communities, we know that Ben Litchfield is the candidate who will fight for every constituent. His campaign is a people-powered movement to build a better Virginia for all, and we are proud to endorse him.
