Elizabeth Guzman declares candidacy for 22nd House District

On Tuesday, former 31st House Delegate Elizabeth Guzman announced on X she has launched a campaign for Virgina’s 22nd House of Delegates District. The district, which encompasses the western end of Prince William County, including Linton Hall and Nokesville, is currently represented by Republican Ian Lovejoy.

Guzman, who has defeated a Republican incumbent in 2018, looks to flip the seat from red to blue. The first Latina in the Virginia House of Delegates, said the following on the social media app. “To fight back against Trump’s attacks on our immigrant families, public schools, healthcare, reproductive rights, and civil service, we need Democratic state legislatures.”

The longtime social worker turned delegate served for six years, focusing on creating legislation that protects workers’ rights, as well as introducing over 100 bills during her time in office. Among the legislation passed was lifting Virginia’s blanket ban on public sector collective bargaining. Also, she has worked on several committees, from the Commerce and Energy, to the Health, Welfare and Institutions Committee and the Education Committee.
