Early Sunday voting a rousing success in Prince William County

As the general elections enters the final weeks across the nation and in Virginia, polling stations have been filled with voters, particularly throughout Prince William County. Over the past two weeks, early voting took place on Sunday at the following stations:
- Ferlazzo Building
- Haymarket Gainesville Library
- Brentsville Courthouse
- DMV Woodbridge
- Dumfries Community Center
The region has been among the highest in the state, with the Prince William County of Elections posting on X that there was “the most opening day voters at one site for any election” in the county’s history.
Whether it was for the presidential ballot, or for congressional districts 7 & 10, there is a lot of energy for people to come out and vote. Voters waited in line for over an hour to ensure their vote was counted in several places, with reports of the Woodbridge DMV at Caton Hill lines being “wrapped around the corner,” as one person told the PW Perspective.
We spoke with one poll worker at the Dumfries Community Center who worked for the Prince William County GOP, and he talked about why he enjoyed working in the Potomac District.
“It’s never a problem here, and I prefer to be here, because it’s the Potomac Democrats, and I work for the Potomac Republicans. You can go to other places, and there’s such hostility, but here’s that’s not the case.”
In particular, the annual “Souls to the Polls,” which was designed to help churchgoers get to the polls on traditional worship days, has also seen growth in the area. This year, the Phi Beta Sigma Omicron Zeta Sigma Chapter of Prince William County was joined by the Prince William County Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority at the DMV to help get voters informed and prepared. The plan is for all Divine Nine sororities and fraternities to be at the next event in 2025.
Early voting on Sunday brought out more than just the voters; it also brought out the candidates. Whether it was CD-7 Democratic candidate Eugene Vindman in Dumfries, or his Republican opponent Derrick Anderson at the DMV, or even current Congressperson Abigail Spanberger at the Ferlazzo Building, they took the time to speak with their constituents, answering questions on issues which mattered to them.
Spanberger, who is running in the 2025 gubernatorial race, spoke with the PW Perspective’s John Reid about what it meant to be at Ferlazzo to support early voting. “It’s excited to be here today. This is the first day of early voting at this location and others across Prince William County, and it’s excited because it means we get to celebrate our ability to cast our ballot, which is our voice. The recognition we have early voting in Virginia and making it accessible for voters is fantastic.”
She also talked about getting a bipartisan bill passed that streamlines veterans to help them get their CDL license easier, and how voting supports them.
“When we get out and vote it is a recognition of all of those sacrifices and a recognition of our shared American history and values,” she said.
For those who need a ballot sent to them, Friday is the last day to do so.
