Donations for Afghan Refugees in Prince William County

Prince William County is closely monitoring the arrival of Afghan evacuees in Northern Virginia and is prepared to offer any humanitarian assistance that may be requested.  County officials have been in touch with representatives from Marine Corps Base Quantico, and they do not report any unmet operational needs as they continue to welcome Afghan evacuees under Operation Allies Welcome

There continues to be a tremendous response from the community regarding donations. Due to the outpouring of support, there are limited immediate needs for Afghan evacuees in Northern Virginia who are awaiting resettlement.  Cash donations to the recognized resettlement organizations continue to be the best way to help.  Please do not send or drop off any donations of physical goods to military bases that are temporarily hosting evacuees. As agencies across Virginia prepare to support the long-term resettlement needs of evacuees, all donations of physical goods should be coordinated through recognized community organizations that are directly supporting these efforts.

For more information and opportunities to support this initiative in Northern Virginia, please reach out to Mr. Yaqub Zargurpur with the Virginia Council of Muslim Organizations Afghan Refugee Task Force at jakezargarpur@gmail.com, or call 2-1-1.  Current needs are limited to specific culturally appropriate items, including conservative attire for women and girls, such as long sleeve tops and tunics, light long cardigans, jeans (with no rips or holes in them), leggings, and pants.
