Conversations in the Community Launches Summer Reading Experience for Youth and Adults

Conversations in the Community, Inc., has launched its summer reading experience.

“I love to read and enjoy discussing books with other people. Our summer reading experience is a great way to engage with neighbors and friends,” said Jennifer Roberts, president and founder.

The adult book selections are Sadeqa Johnson’s novel, “The Yellow Wife” and “Something Must Be Done About Prince Edward County: A Family, a Virginia Town, a Civil Rights Battle” by Kristen Green. Adult participants will meet for dinner on Friday, July 29th (“The Yellow Wife”) and Friday, August 26th
(“Something Must be Done About Prince Edward County”) to discuss the books.

Children in grades K-12 are invited to read books from the Conversations in the Community Suggested Book List (www.citcom.org). Registered participants will be invited to a virtual reading celebration in August to share feedback from the books they read.

“The books on our list help expand children’s thinking about American history and the modern world. The selections invite children to learn about other people’s experiences, narratives and contributions,” added Roberts.

Conversations in the Community, Inc. is a non-profit organization headquartered in Haymarket, Virginia. It is committed to engaging community members in meaningful and respectful dialogue about racism and addressing issues in education with the goal of developing empathy and building strong communities.
