Conversations in the Community Adds Educational Arm to Serve Local Children and Their Families

by John Reid

Haymarket, Virginia – Conversations in the Community is expanding its service offerings for students and families to include the Sawubona Learning Collective

Sawubona is a greeting that means “I see you” in Swahili.  It reflects the organization’s approach and deep commitment to growing young minds and engaging families. The way that we educate children must change from employment focused to student focused.  Student-centered education that leads with love and celebrates the humanity of each student and their family works,” said Jennifer Roberts, founder and president of Conversations in the Community.

The Sawubona Learning Collective will include opportunities for students in grades pre K-12 in Prince William County, the city of Manassas and surrounding areas.  Offerings will include a traveling collection of picture books that will be read with groups of children by request, community field trips to meaningful sites, partnerships with local educational providers as well as personalized programming to help parents and guardians support their students at home.

We deeply value our community of learners and their families. We want them to know that we love them, we see them, we hear them, we value them, and we exist to serve them. Our curated programming helps them to not only know themselves more fully but to better understand the world around them and how they fit,”  added Roberts.
