Brown Girls Embrace Is Changing The Way We See Ourselves

“It’s not what happens to you, but how you react to it that matters.” Epictetus

Leslie Tarleton had a rough childhood. At the tender age of 9 years old, her father committed suicide, at the same time they gave her a life-changing diagnosis of type 1 diabetes. These monumental events caused Leslie to live a life of low self-esteem, anger and treating others badly for a long time.

At 25, she did something about what she could control and went to therapy. With a diagnosis of anxiety and depression, Leslie knew it was time for her to take control and that started with finding the positive things about herself. As she embraced this new way of seeing herself, she felt the next step was to help other women, that look like her, have the tools needed to do the same thing.

Leslie created Brown Girls Embrace with the mission to focus on self love through hair care, mental health and managing type one diabetes.

Brown Girls Embrace is all about helping women feel comfortable in their own skin no matter what difficult situation comes up in life. Leslie encourages other women to be comfortable being themselves and to support the next woman as well.

What can we expect to see next from Brown Girls Embrace?

  • Self-love workshops
  • Self-love bunches
  • Empowering women conferences
  • just to name a few!

Leslie’s message to the women in the community is, “It’s ok to be different, just be the best version of you and wear your crown proudly ladies!“
