Breaking News: Prince William County Supervisors approve Digital Gateway

The world’s largest gateway corridor is coming to Prince William County.

On Wednesday, the Prince William County Board of Supervisors approved the PW Digital Gateway. In a hearing that lasted more than 27 hours, and after public comments either in favor of or against the project had spoken, it was voted on in a 4-3 vote, with Occoquan District Supervisor Kenny Boddye abstaining. It will allow for 23 million square feet of data centers along Pageland Lane in western Prince William County and will be built over the next two decades.

Those arguing in favor point to the potential $400 million rise in commercial tax revenue and job growth, while opponents argued on the potential pollution issues that would occur within the Rural Crescent.

QTS Realty Trust, one of the organizations behind the project, released the following statement via one of its executives:

“QTS is grateful to Prince William County and the Board of Supervisors for entrusting us with stewardship of the Prince William Digital Gateway, which is projected to bring an estimated $500 million in annual tax revenue to the County. QTS will continue to work diligently with County staff, elected officials, and residents as it carries out its environmental and responsible development commitments. We are excited for this partnership to strengthen the Prince William community and bring increased local tax revenue and new job opportunities.”
