Alleged ‘Shopping Cart Killer’ Identified and in Custody, Police Say

Fairfax County and Harrisonburg Police announced on Friday that they have identified an alleged serial killer who took the lives of at least four people whose remains were found in Fairfax County and Harrisonburg, Virginia. The suspect is already in police custody.

Charges are pending against 35-year-old Anthony Robinson, of DC. Dubbed “the Shopping Cart Killer” for allegedly killing four individuals, Robinson was arrested with video evidence and cell phone records obtained by police.

Police said Robinson targeted women and he met his victims through dating apps and brought them to motels where he used blunt force trauma to kill them. The video evidence obtained by police shows Robinson transporting the victims’ bodies.

Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis and Harrisonburg Police Chief Kelley Warner shared evidence of Robinson’s alleged crimes at a joint press conference on Friday.

Robinson was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder in Harrisonburg in late November after two of his victims were found on Nov. 25 near an abandoned parking lot. Warner stated at the press conference that cell phone records and video surveillance linked Robinson to the murders of the two women.

Robinson was dubbed the shopping cart killer because he allegedly used shopping carts to transport the remains of his victims. The announcement comes after a body was found by police near a shopping cart in a wooded area in Fairfax County earlier this week.

“Our shopping cart killer does unspeakable things with his victims,” Davis said. “And it’s our collective duty and responsibility to bring justice and closure to all of our communities.”

Davis made a plea for help from Robinson’s friends, family, and neighbors at the press conference due to what he described as a “remarkable absence” of a criminal record.

Police say that Robinson could be responsible for more killings and has addresses in New York, Prince George’s County, Maryland, and D.C. Police are currently investigating whether there are any other unsolved cases that could be linked to Robinson.

“We believe he’s responsible for these four deaths. But what else is he responsible for?” Davis asked.

Police are asking anyone who knows Robinson to come forward. Police are also asking and encouraging anyone with potential information or leads to call Fairfax County Police Department Major Crimes Bureau at 703-246-7800. Alternatively, tips can be submitted anonymously by calling 1-866-411-TIPS.
