Prince William Health District Offering Third Doses of COVID-19 Vaccine

Does will go to People with Moderately to Severely Compromised Immune Systems

On Friday, August 13, the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) adopted the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) recommendation that moderately and severely immunocompromised people receive an additional dose of mRNA COVID-19 vaccine. Third doses are only for those with moderately or severely weakened immune systems, such as those who have had an organ transplant or have advanced or untreated HIV.

As of Saturday, August 14, the Prince William Health District (PWHD) and other vaccine providers across Virginia began offering third doses of Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccines to those with moderately to severely weakened immune systems (immunocompromised). At this time, there is not enough data to recommend a second dose for those who received the Johnson and Johnson vaccine.
