Nicholas Feemster (NiccoFeem) is a multi-talented hip-hop artist, musician, elite lyricist, and a young Black male who is taking a stand to spread awareness around Mental Illness.

Nicholas, “Nicco” began his musical career at 13 and later took home the first place prize in a high school talent show at age 16. Nicco graduated from high school and moved to Georgia to pursue his music while attending Georgia State University, where he received two Bachelor degrees in Marketing and in Business. Nicco’s family history of musicians including his grandfather (Herb Fame) one half the critically acclaimed R&B duo, Peaches & Herb, who created hits like “Shake Your Groove Thing” and the triple platinum song “Reunited,” helped drive Nicco to do more to pursue his own music career, and this created extra pressure. Nicco felt alone, away from family and friends, pursuing opportunities that didn’t satisfy his sense of passion and purpose, and he entered what he considers the darkest moment of his life.

During this time, Nicco turned to his first love, writing lyrics. Through writing and therapy, Nicco found a sense of comfort in the darkness, but despite this small comfort, Nicco realized he needed to return to his hometown in the DC, Maryland, Virginia area to be with his family and to stabilize himself.

Back home, Nicco could focus more attention on his music career. For Nicco, it was more than just creating music; he desired to tell his painful experiences through music. Not only would this continue to help Nicco through his own personal healing, but this would help people that looked like him to understand that through pain there is healing!

Nicco’s music covers a wide variety of topics related to mental health. His emotionally driven storytelling focuses on the brutal truth he lives through, which has inspired thousands of those across the world.

NiccoFeem spearheaded a global social media campaign called #letsjustbehonest2020 in partnership with the Black Mental Wellness Corporation, further illustrating the impact music can have on mental health. He has also been published in European media, and has had his lyrics added into local high school and college curriculum. His Instagram/YouTube series titled “let’s just be honest” discusses several sensitive topics which include depression, anxiety, alcoholism, insecurity, and more. The series has generated well over 200,000 views, collectively inspiring people to be more honest about who they are.

Nicco is currently working with a production team, the Award-winning, Johnna Michelle Productions, along with Filmmaker, TL Benton of Mecca Film Works, and Creative Director, Dre Stokes to bring the release of his sophomore album PTSD, to the public with a complete video series that will outline his journey of healing.

The title track PTSD is a prelude to future videos and songs from the album.

Nicco hopes to help all in the community, especially young Black boys, to, “weaponize their pain”. Meaning, use that pain to push them to fight harder, excel and accomplish their dreams.
