ALFC Begins COVID-19 Grocery and Utility Bill Program

This edition of “Our Voices” is from Anonymous List for Change.

Did you know that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) recommends $131-150 per week for groceries for a family of four? A Family of 4 is defined by the USDA as a male and female 19-50 years old and two children 2-11 years old. That price tag is on the “thrifty” side of things. The next level is “low cost,” which is between $167-197.

Right now, there is a family in the area that is unsure of where their next set of groceries will come from. They’re unsure of how their kids will eat. In addition, they may need help with a utility bill. That’s why we started the ALFC COVID-19 Grocery and Utility Bill Program, which selects 1 person each week for the duration of the pandemic to assist with either a grocery bill for the entire week or a utility bill.
