MAV Anti-Racism Taskforce Presents Black History Month Events
Last year the Muslim Association of Virginia established its Anti-Racism Taskforce with the purpose of combating anti-Blackness, prejudice, discrimination, oppression, and all aspects of racism within the Muslim community as well as in the wider society, promoting equity and justice. As Black History Month is upon us, they will host a couple of virtual events to honor the iconic voice of civil rights leader Malcolm X in a series titled, “Malcolm X Speaks For Me.”
The first event will take place on Sunday, February 7 at 6-7pm called “Slavery & the Roots of Islam in America.” It will be a historical walk through the 1800s by Amir Muhammad, CEO of America’s Islamic Heritage Museum. The next event will be on Sunday, February 21 from 6-7pm, and it is called, “From Malcolm X to Al Hajj Malik al Shabazz.” It is a case study on Malcolm’s spiritual journey in light of Racism
and the Transformative power of Islam.
