Delegate Sam Rasoul officially announces his candidacy for Lieutenant Governor of Virginia

With that tweet Democratic Delegate Sam Rasoul of Virginia’s 11th District made it official as he has entered the race for Lieutenant Governor of the Commonwealth. The 39 year old native of Warren, Ohio was elected to the House of Delegates in 2014, representing the city of Roanoke. He joins a crowded field that includes fellow Delegates Hala Ayala and Elizabeth Guzman, as well as Fairfax NAACP President Sean Perryman.

Delegate Rasoul has been dedicated to serving the greater good of the Roanoke community, and his record in public service reflects as such. Whether it’s serving as advocate for environmental justice via endorsing the Green New Deal, to the Fair Housing Law for Black and Brown communities, Rasoul has been involved heavily in the empowerment of Virginians. He has even served as a substitute teacher in order to gain a greater understanding of how Roanoke City Public Schools were operating.

As he enters the race, it brings the state of Virginia an even more diverse field than ever before, and provides the voters of 2021 an opportunity to bring in true progressives to lead going forward.
