Mayor Wood’s Community Awards Gala honors local residents for their contributions to the community

Yesterday evening at the luxurious Outdoor Showplace in Dumfries was the 2024 Mayor’s Ball & Community Awards Gala. Presented by the Derrick Wood Foundation, it is a yearly celebration to honor those who have made a difference in their communities. It was a virtual who’s who as several friends and family members came from around the country to support the honorees.

Below is a list of the award recipients in several categories:

  • Volunteerism Award – Omicron Zeta Sigma Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.
  • Al Brooks Unsung Hero Award – Sandra “Queenie” McLean
  • Religious Institution Award – Dumfries United Methodist Church
  • Business of the Year – Welburn Management
  • Elementary Teacher of the Year Award – Kristin Nupdal
  • Hometown Hero Award – Tisha Lewis
  • Living Legend Award – Mayor Chris Brown
  • Police of the Year – Kasie Banks
  • Nonprofit of the Year – Keep Prince William Beautiful

Each of the award recipients also received a congressional letter of congratulations from Congressperson Abigail Spanberger. Congratulations to all of this year’s award winners!
