Imagine Partners with African American Heritage Association of Virginia to Promote Integrated African American Heritage Trails

Imagine, a leading destination marketing agency, is proud to announce a strategic partnership with the African American Heritage Association of Virginia (AAHAVA) and Soul of Virginia Magazine. This collaboration aims to promote and enhance African American heritage trails across Virginia, fostering cultural awareness, economic sustainability, and community engagement.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), signed by Rebecca Barnes, CEO of Imagine, and W. Kent Ruffin, President of AAHAVA, outlines a comprehensive strategy to integrate various African American heritage trails into a cohesive and engaging network. This initiative seeks to create a unified visitor experience while promoting awareness, preservation, and economic sustainability.

African American heritage trails are curated pathways that guide visitors through significant sites, landmarks, and stories that highlight the rich history and contributions of African Americans. These trails serve as educational resources and cultural touchstones, connecting communities with their heritage and promoting a deeper understanding of the African American experience in Virginia. The integrated trails will showcase historical sites, museums, and other landmarks that have played a crucial role in African American history, creating a meaningful and immersive experience for all visitors.

Rebecca Barnes of Imagine will serve as an advisor to AAHAVA, providing insights and guidance to enhance marketing efforts, non-profit administration, and fundraising. This role underscores Imagine’s commitment to supporting cultural heritage initiatives and driving community equity.

“We are thrilled to partner with AAHAVA and Soul of Virginia Magazine to promote African American heritage trails in Virginia,” said Rebecca Barnes, CEO of Imagine. “This collaboration represents a significant step towards celebrating and preserving the rich cultural history of African Americans in our state.”

W. Kent Ruffin, President of AAHAVA, added, “Our integrated trail strategy will not only highlight the historical and cultural significance of African American heritage sites but also drive economic growth and sustainability for local communities.”

Imagine and AAHAVA will be present at the 2024 VA1 Governors Conference on Tourism and are excited to discuss opportunities with destinations interested in highlighting African American history in their locations.
