Conversations in the Community Announces Work Together Wednesdays

by John Reid

Over the past year, parents of Black school children in Prince William County have expressed concerns on issues of harassment and discrimination. While it has led to a number of parents deciding to remove their children from schools for their protection, one organization is providing a forum for their voices to be heard.

Conversations in the Community is offering a new service to support the community, Work Together Wednesdays.  These are monthly, virtual work sessions to help Prince William County Schools students, parents and guardians navigate documenting and reporting experiences of racial discrimination and harassment against Black students in school. Prince William County Schools has policies, regulations and procedures that directly address discrimination and harassment.  Families must educate themselves about these safeguards and hold students as well as educators accountable when the policies are violated.  This process doesn’t have to be intimidating and families should not have to walk this path along or suffer in silence.

The first work session will take place on Wednesday, October 25th at 8:00pm. Check out the link to register. Please note Conversations in the Community is not offering legal counsel.
