Helen Zurita, a Manassas City resident and advocate against homelessness, is most well known for her fight to save East End Mobile Home Park when the community was at risk a few years ago. Now, she’s facing new challenges as a candidate for Manassas City Council.

“I’m not a politician; I’m a community builder,” Zurita told the PW Perspective when asked why she is running for City Council. 

She noted that people in the city are being forced to fend for themselves during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the current City Council has not done much to help their residents.

“People are suffering in our city and nobody is listening,” Zurita said. “They always just say ‘there’s a process’.”

If elected, Zurita says she plans to fight for everyone in Manassas and work to change the money-centric culture of Manassas City politics. She believes the City Council has a responsibility to do whatever they can to help residents of the city.

Zurita will be on the ballot on Tuesday, June 23 for the Democratic Primary. She is one of four candidates running in the primary. The other candidates are Tom Osina, and incumbents Mark Wolfe and Pamela Sebesky. Only three of the four Democrats will be on the ballot in November.
