PRTC to hold Public Hearing for Proposed FY2024 Budget

Regarding Proposed FY 2024 Budget, Proposed FY 2024 Fare Increase for Commuter Bus Services, and Proposed FY 2024 Applications for Federally Participating Projects

The Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission (PRTC) has scheduled a public hearing to present its proposed FY 2024 budget and invite public review/comment. The proposed $86 million budget includes $59.7 million for operating expenses and $26.3 million in capital costs.  The proposed FY 2024 budget includes a fare increase for commuter bus services from $6.90 to $9.00 per trip when paying with SmarTrip, the first fare increase in more than five years. The proposed budget calls for new and expanded commuter services that would be paid for by the state as part of the I-95/395 and I-66 transit and transportation demand management plans and commuter choice program.

PRTC is the federal grant applicant for federally participating projects that PRTC, Virginia Railway Express (VRE), and Fredericksburg Regional Transit (FRED), envision applying for in FY 2024. Public comment is invited on all those projects as proposed.

The public hearing will be held virtually on Monday, May 22, 2023, at 6:00 PM. To participate in the remote meeting, email crodrigo@omniride.com or call 703-580-6122 no later than Monday, May 22, 2023, at 5:00 PM to receive login information.

Materials detailing the proposed budget and federally participating PRTC, VRE and FRED projects will be available at OmniRide.com prior to the public hearings.
