On Friday, January 6, Dr. Ellsworth Weaver, president of the Fauquier NAACP, made transition at Fauquier Hospital. He was an educator, community leader, and visionary who led the NAACP branch, bringing both Black and white people together to heal racial divisions. Since the Freedom Summer of 2020, Weaver was among those who were a part of the Black Lives Matter vigils that continue to this day. He spoke at the 100th consecutive vigil last May, encouraging the people to keep on fighting.

“Mental health is running rapid, therefore we as an organization of people who are willing to fight and run to the end to help others who have been denied,” said Weaver. “That’s what these vigils are all about.”

He said that the protests are one thing, but it cannot stop there. “Each one of those banners that we’re carrying is sending a message. The question is, do you believe in the message, or what is something to do on a Saturday?”

In his message to the Fauquier NAACP in August, he wrote on his plans to see the goals come to pass. “As the President of this great Branch of the NAACP, I remain committed to fulfilling our mission, and will continue to encourage others to promote and stand for justice and equity for all people of color. These times in which we live affect all of us, and we must make sacrifices that have not been common in our day-to-day lives before. I pray that all nations will live in peace as we continue to address today’s challenge. “May God Bless America” and, please, “Stay Vertical”.”

He is survived by his wife, Taryn, and family members.
