VA Black Business Expo highlights the best in Black entrepreneurship

Throughout the past few years, the Virginia Black Business Directory has been the ultimate resource in providing Black-owned businesses a space where they can be showcased. It has given potential consumers an opportunity to support the culture in a manner similar to how predominantly Black populated communities did in decades past. This weekend at the Fredericksburg Expo and Conference Center, they held their annual Black Business Expo, and this year was more than just a gathering of businesses ready to show off their products; it was a celebration of Black wealth.

There was something for the thousands of attendees who came to network and spend their dollars. Whether it was real estate, publishing companies, or artists looking to make a name with their works, it was a diverse arrangement of flowing ideas and connections being made. Also, there were several food vendors who ensured that the crowd was well nourished, with a blend of southern cuisines, vegan meals, and sweet delights.

However, the expo was more than just food and booths, there were several performers on hand to keep the crowd entertained. The emcee for the panel was none other than Free Marie, yes, the star of “106 & Park” fame and several other projects, hosted an informative discussion on Black issues within the community, including the benefits of sea moss, to getting into the entertainment business. She was joined by such actors as Guy Lambert, Tobias Truvillion, and Dutchess Lattimore of “Black Ink Crew.” They took the time to answer questions and take photos with those in attendance. As the beats were being spun by DJ Heat of the Washington Wizards and Mystics as well as DJ Rick Watson, they gave way to an outstanding dance show by two groups of young Black ladies. Both Elite Performance and Ambiance Center for the Performing Arts electrified the dance floor with an array of moves and style that kept everyone on their feet. There was also a high-level fashion show that featured very elegant designs and a self-defense show that closed out the first day.

There was an amazing dance party, a hair show, and plenty other demonstrations the following day, and it resulted in yet another outstanding weekend of success for its founders, Ernisha and Tracey Hall.

Among the attendees who came out to show their support was none other than Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger, who spoke on the expo’s brilliance. “It was amazing to see how great this was put together. I got to see so many beautiful pieces of art, which were absolutely gorgeous. I really enjoyed listening to the stories of how so many businesses were created, they were very inspiring. It was a great event, and they’re going to focus on youth entrepreneurs which I think is amazing.”

“The VA Black Business Directory has been doing incredible work,” she continued, “and it brought several businesses together. They’re uplifting one another, and it’s been wonderful to be a part of.”
