Celebrate Afro-Salvadoran Black History Month

Afro-Salvadorans have a rich history throughout the United States, and especially in Northern Virginia. For decades, they have been involved in the building of our communities and August is a time to commemorate their extraordinary achievements!

During the month, the countries of Costa Rica and El Salvador will be honoring their culture with a variety of events, starting with a celebration next Sunday at 1 County Complex Court in Woodbridge, and continuing with a celebration the following week at Harris Pavilion in Manassas.

While the celebrations will honor the accomplishments of Afro-Salvadoran culture, more must be done to ensure that the community is provided with the resources they need to thrive. This is where organizations such as CASA are leading the way in taking care of the people to address housing, education, and providing job skills necessary in an evolving economy.
